Why Healing Matters: You Can't Change What You Don't Understand

By Kris Swiatocho

Have you ever found yourself asking:
  • Why do I keep reacting this way?
  • Why do I struggle to trust people?
  • Why do I feel anxious, rejected, lonely, or never quite enough?
  • Why do I keep repeating the same unhealthy patterns in relationships?

If so, you're not alone.

Many women spend years trying to change their behavior without ever understanding the deeper wounds driving it. We pray more, read more books, attend more Bible studies, and work harder to "get over it." Yet somehow, we still find ourselves stuck.
The truth is, healing isn't just about changing what we do. It's about understanding why we do it.

Our Past Shapes Our Present
Every one of us has a story.
Some stories include rejection, abandonment, betrayal, divorce, abuse, neglect, loss, criticism, or unhealthy relationships. Others may not seem traumatic at all on the surface, yet still leave wounds that shape how we view ourselves, God, and others.
The experiences we have, especially in childhood and significant relationships, often create messages that become deeply rooted in our hearts:

  • "I'm not enough."
  • "People always leave."
  • "I can't trust anyone."
  • "I have to earn love."
  • "My needs don't matter."
Over time, these messages influence our thoughts, emotions, decisions, and relationships—even when we don't realize it.

Why We Stay Stuck
Most people think healing comes simply from talking about what happened.

While sharing your story can be important, trauma and attachment wounds often affect much more than your memories. They impact your nervous system, emotional responses, relationships, and internal beliefs.

That's why many women know what happened to them yet still struggle to move forward. You can't heal what you don't understand, and you can't change patterns that remain hidden.

God's Desire Is Restoration
The good news is that God is not intimidated by our wounds. In fact, Scripture is filled with stories of broken people whom God restored.
Psalm 147:3 says: "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds."

God doesn't simply want you to survive your past. He wants you to experience freedom from it. He wants you to recognize the lies you've believed, replace them with truth, and learn healthier ways to relate to yourself, others, and Him. Healing is not about blaming people. Healing is not about staying stuck in the past. Healing is about allowing God to reveal what has been hidden so He can bring restoration.

Why Attend a Restoration Experience Retreat?
Because sometimes we need more than information—we need transformation.

The Restoration Experience was created specifically for women ready to understand their stories, identify unhealthy patterns, and begin a deeper healing journey.
During this retreat, you'll learn:
  • How trauma affects the brain and nervous system
  • How attachment wounds impact relationships
  • Why emotional triggers happen
  • How lies become strongholds
  • Biblical and practical tools for healing
  • How to move from survival to freedom

Most importantly, you'll discover that you are not alone.

Many women arrive feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, discouraged, or stuck. They leave with greater clarity, hope, understanding, and practical tools for continuing their healing journey long after the weekend ends.

What If This Is Your Time?
  • Perhaps you've spent years taking care of everyone else.
  • Perhaps you've hidden your pain behind a smile.
  • Perhaps you've convinced yourself that what happened wasn't that bad.
  • Or perhaps you know exactly what wounded you, but you've never known how to heal.
  • What if God is inviting you to take a step toward restoration?
  • What if the very thing you've been avoiding is the thing He wants to heal?
  • You don't have to have all the answers.
  • You don't have to have everything figured out.
  • You simply have to be willing.

Take the First Step
Healing is a journey, but every journey begins with a first step. If you're tired of surviving and ready to understand your story, experience God's healing, and discover practical tools for lasting change, we invite you to join us at the next Restoration Experience Retreat.

You are not beyond repair. You are not too damaged. You are not alone. With God's help, restoration is possible.

"Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing!" — Isaiah 43:18-19 (NIV)
Join us and discover the new thing God may want to do in your life.
